Report a player, a display name or cheating
How to report offensive display names, abuse at a table, or somebody you believe is tampering with a game, and what we do about it.
Before you start
- Nertz! tables are meant to be friendly family games. Display names must not impersonate anyone or be offensive, and nobody may cheat or tamper with a game.
- Only report a player you actually met in a game. Reports are for real problems, and false reports make the queue slower for everybody.
Send the report
- 1At an online table, open the safety button (the shield) and choose Report. Or open a ticket from the help centre and choose "Safety, abuse & cheating".
- 2Pick the closest issue: report a player, an offensive display name, or suspected cheating.
- 3Tell us the display name, the table code if you have it, and roughly when it happened.
- 4Describe what happened in your own words. A screenshot of the table helps us find the game.
- 5Sign in if you can, so we can tie the report to the game you were in.
What we can do
- Change a display name or remove a leaderboard entry that breaks our terms.
- Reset scores that came from tampering or automation.
- Suspend an account from playing online while we look at repeated reports.
- Correct anything on the table that went wrong as a result of the behaviour.
Blocking a name, and the names we filter
- At an online table, open the safety button (the shield) and choose Block. That display name is hidden from you at every table from then on, the other player is never told, and you can undo it in Settings.
- Display names are filtered before any table shows them: swearing, hate terms, sexual words, links, and names pretending to be Nertz! or its staff are refused, and a name that somehow slips through is stored as "Player".
- You can report a display name even after the player has left the table. Reports are for names and behaviour you actually met in a game.
What we cannot do
- We cannot tell you what we did about another person's account. Privacy applies to them too, so we confirm that we received and acted on your report, not the outcome.
- We cannot monitor tables in real time, and there is no chat at a table, so a report with details and a time is the fastest route.
- We cannot arbitrate a friendly family argument about the rules. The scoring article and the round summary are the record of what happened.
Good to know
If somebody is bothering you, the simplest fix is to leave the table with the leave button and open a fresh one. You never have to stay in a game.
If you are the one being reported
You can appeal. See "Appeal a score reset or a suspension", and tell us what you think happened. We look at both sides before making anything permanent.
