Open a table and invite family & friends
How to start an online Nertz table, share the code or invite link, choose the target score and deal the first round.
Before you start
- You do not need an account to open a table, but a signed-in host unlocks table invites and saved scores.
- Everyone playing needs their own phone, tablet or computer. The table is live, so all players should be online at the same time.
Open the table
- 1On the home screen tap "Family & friends".
- 2Tap the button to start a new table. The lobby opens with a table code for this game.
- 3Send the code, or the invite link, to everybody you want at the table. Details below.
- 4Wait while players sit down. Each new player appears in the list with their name, and the host is marked.
- 5Choose the target score for the match: 100, 250, 500 or No limit.
- 6When at least two players are seated, tap "Deal 'em!" to start the first round.
Good to know
Only the host can deal, and the deal button stays disabled until a second player has sat down.
Two ways to invite
- Table code: a short code shown in large letters in the lobby. Friends tap "Family & friends" on the home screen, type the code in the CODE box, add their name and tap Join.
- Invite link: the "Copy invite link" button copies a link that opens the game straight onto the join screen with the code already filled in. On a phone the same button opens your share sheet instead, so you can send it through any messaging app.
What happens next
- Players who join after the first deal are seated and play from the next round.
- Signed-in players who have not played in the last hour also get a table invite email and a notification in the bell about two minutes after a table opens, so a quiet table can fill itself.
- When someone drops out, their name is marked away while the table waits for them.
- The round ends when somebody empties their Nertz pile, or when the whole table is quiet for 25 seconds.
Common problems
Common problems
My friends say the code does not work.
Codes are letters and numbers only, with no spaces. Check for a 0 versus the letter O and a 1 versus the letter I, and read it out loud if you are sharing by voice. If the table has been closed, open a fresh one and share the new code.
The deal button is greyed out.
The table needs at least two seated players. Wait for one more person to join, and check the player list for anyone marked away.
Nobody can see my invite.
If you opened the table with a link, make sure you sent the whole link. Some messaging apps shorten long links; the table code always works as a fallback.
