Cookies, storage and your choices

The small number of cookies and browser storage items Nertz! uses, what each one does, and how to change your choice.

Essential storage

None of these are used for advertising, and none of them are shared with other companies for advertising.

  • Sign-in session: a token that keeps you signed in. Removed when you sign out.
  • Game preferences ("nertz_solo_prefs"): your display name, level, number of computer players and target score, so the next solo game is ready to play.
  • Live table: a temporary connection id kept in this tab's session storage, so a refresh keeps your seat. Cleared when you close the tab.
  • Help votes ("nertz_help_votes"): remembers which help articles you marked as helpful, so we do not ask twice on this device.
  • Help assistant: remembers that you closed the helper, and holds the note you hand to the ticket form when you ask to talk to a person.

Analytics

Nothing runs until you click "Accept analytics" in the banner, and it starts from your next page load. Two services then count visits: Google Analytics 4 (cookies "_ga" and "_ga_QX0WY4R572", kept for up to 2 years) and Base44, the platform the game runs on (a random visit ID in local storage, "base44_analytics_session_id").

Base44 analytics records when the visit started and the page you came from, the page path you are on, a "still here" signal once a minute, session length, and your account ID when you are signed in. It is not anonymous: a signed-in visit is linked to your account. Neither service ever receives your name, email address, display name or room codes.

Choosing Reject in "Cookie settings" turns both services off, deletes the Google Analytics cookies and removes the stored visit ID. Global Privacy Control does the same without a click, and you can change your mind at any time.

Your choices

  1. 1Use "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the home screen or a legal page to accept or reject analytics.
  2. 2If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a rejection and analytics never loads unless you opt in yourself.
  3. 3You can block or clear cookies and storage in your browser settings. Blocking essential storage will sign you out and reset your saved preferences, but every game mode still works.
  4. 4On a phone, clearing site data for nertz.app has the same effect as clearing storage on a computer.

Third party content

The game's typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser sends your IP address and basic browser information to Google when a page loads. Google Fonts does not set cookies. The only other outside script is Google Analytics, which loads only after you accept it (see "Analytics" above).
