Call Nertz and end the round

Nertz is called for you the moment your Nertz pile is empty. Here is what that does to the round, the bonus and everyone else.

How it happens

  1. 1Play your way down your Nertz pile: put its top card on a work pile, in the middle, or onto another Nertz pile that belongs to you.
  2. 2The moment your Nertz pile is empty, Nertz is called for you. You do not need to tap anything.
  3. 3The round ends immediately for every player, wherever they are.
  4. 4The Nertz bonus of 50 points is added to your round score.

What it costs the others

  • Every player is scored on the cards still on their table.
  • Cards left in a Nertz pile lose points: minus 1 each, and minus 5 for a ten, Jack, Queen or King.
  • Cards already played to the middle keep their points, so a fast finish is not the only way to score well.

Timing and the computer players

Computer players shout Nertz when they are ready, and faster levels shout sooner: on Cozy they sit on an empty pile for a few seconds, on Card Shark they call at once. In a live game the alert bar tells you when somebody is down to their last card, which is your warning that the round is nearly over.

Common problems

Common problems

The round ended but I had points left to play.

That is the end of the round, and every player stops at the same moment. The summary lists what each player had on their table.

Can I call Nertz before my pile is empty?

No. In Nertz! the call comes from playing your last Nertz card, so it can never be a bluff.

My Nertz pile cards will not go anywhere.

Check the top card of the pile. It only needs one legal home: a work pile with the right colour and number, the middle in suit order, or another Nertz pile of your own.
